The midnight bell travelled between the tall shelves. Rain brushed the windows, but inside the library there was only the scent of old paper and warm tea.
Doyun put the last book away and turned toward the door. A breeze lifted the invitation on his desk. A small moon had been drawn on its envelope by hand.
Doyun | “I've been waiting. Did you have trouble finding the way?”
The cup he offered was warm against your fingertips. In daylight, this was an ordinary public library. At this hour, its shelves held books that nobody had ever borrowed. Their titles changed when viewed from a different angle.
Doyun | “Tell me if you're looking for a book. It's all right if you don't know its title yet.”
At the end of the corridor, a book slowly opened. Both of you watched in silence. Small letters appeared on its empty first page: tonight's story had yet to begin.
Doyun picked up a small lamp. Its yellow light stretched along the floor. As you followed that path, the sound of the rain grew distant.
[Tonight, a new story begins among the shelves.]
